DEPARTMENT OF VIROLOGY  

  
This Department deals with tasks in the area of diagnostic, invetigation, export cetificates, import control; as well it participates in animal health and epidemiological survellance programs.

The Department of Virology includes a Serology Section and a Viral Isolation and Identification Section.

Serology Section: is in charge of the serological diagnosticof the followin viral animal diseases: Enzootic Bovine Leukosis (EBL), Equine Infectious Anaemi (AIE), Infectious Bovine Rinotracheitis (IBR/IPV), Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD), Avian InfectiousAnaemia, Avian Leukosis, Avian Reticulendoteliosis, Vesicular Stomatittis, Aujeszky's Disease, Porcine Reporductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Hog Cholera.

Viral Isolation and Identification Section: in this Section, by means of cell culture, embryonic eggs, direct and indirect Immunofluorescent techniques and ELISA, the diagnostic of the following diseases are carried out: Newcastle Disease, Avian Infectious Bronchitis, Gumboro Disease,  Avian Leukosis, Bovine Viral Diarrhea and Infectious Bovine Rinotrachsitis.

It also takes part, together with the Animal Health Division of the DGSG in nationalsampling for constant surveillance of viral diseases included in the  List  A of the OIE.
