DEPARTMENT OF  PARASITOLOGY

This Department includes the Ectoparasits and Endoparasites Sections. Presently it is a  Reference Center for America in hemoparasites and it has been proposed to name it as a FAO Reference Center for Argentina, Brazil and Praguay on the tick resistance subject.

The Ectoparasite Section participate in the tick (Boophilus microplus), sheep louse and mange sanitary program; it handles the diagnostic and control of Haematobia irritants and Cochliomya hominivorax (screwworm). It also makes biological and analytical evaluations of the registrations of ectoparasiticides for tick, louse and mange.

The Endoparasites Section is in charge of the diagnostic, investigation and epidemiological follow up of  hemoparasites and of the vaccine production for Babesia and Anaplasma. It handles diagnostics of gastrointestinal parasites and liver fluke (Distomatosis) as well as the biological and analytical evaluation of parasiticide drugs against them.
